It seems like everyone is going crazy over Game of Thrones.
It’s not a show I have gotten into, but I am familiar with really getting into
a story. These shows and movies that lead millions and billions of people
through an epic storyline tend to leave us disappointed with reality. Well, check
these verses out:
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways
higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:9
“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us
an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is
seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen
is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
Maybe it isn’t Game of Thrones, perhaps you wanted to be an
Avenger (like me 😊) after that marathon of a movie a few weeks
ago. There are countless examples of these huge stories that we are drawn to,
and here is my point – The reason we become so entrenched with these stories is
because we feel like there is something on the horizon, something next, some
sort of bigger story that we are a part of but we can’t quite put our finger on
what it is.
I believe that we are all characters in God’s ultimate
story. A story that, in the end, will be more amazing than anything we could
ever fathom. Imagine the greatest and most epic storyline you have really dug
into and understand that it will pale in comparison to what God has planned. On
that same note, think about your perfect world, one where everything is magical
and colorful and is full of harmony and peace – that too will pale in
comparison to what God has in store (His thoughts and ways are higher than
ours).
Now, here is the best part, this isn’t a game about thrones or superheroes
created during an intense writing session, no… it is the true story of a true
God, the God who sits on the throne, and the God who knows your name and who
has written you into His story.
In Christ Alone,
Jon
